Summer is here, and the time is right, for running through the streets and sweating like a bull. Morning is difficult, I can't leave the wife home with the kids, she has her own business before I move onto work, and lately the afternoons have been impossible, it was ninety degrees the past two days. So, a big, fast sprint around the neighborhood after the children have gone to sleep.

I check the police blotter in the local paper, and part of where I run seems to be where a lot of muggings take place after dark. I don't have a wallet, of course, I'm a runner - but I do have a shiny new iPod Nano (it's hers, actually, but my old one has been acting funny lately) strapped to my arm. I was wondering if I wasn't pushing my luck keeping to the same route.

My heart going boom boom boom.

Weight: 165.5 lbs.
Distance: 3 miles
Stretches: No

I have becomed obsessed with running. This is a good thing. Head up, full of energy. Running before taking the girl to school has been convenient - but it also mena sI neglect stretching afterwards. I have too many complaints to be letting that slide.

Happy Mothering Day

Weight: 165 lbs.
Distance: 3 miles
Weather: warm & overcast
Stretches: yes

My yes, how well a brace works when you wear it correctly. Might have cut a minute off my time last week (yes, a minute.)

3 miles is becoming like a walk in the park. If I had more time, I would go further.

3 miles, three times a week. That's good.

UPDATE: I have been wearing my shin potector upsde-down since I got it. Even for the race. No wonder it fit funny. Now it really works good! (Eesh ...)

2006 Heights 11th Annual 5K Run

Time: 22:37
Weather: cool

My shin held up all right. Not pleased with the course. It was mostly downhill at the start - and largely uphill at the end. And there were an awful lot of turns. Low turn-out, they say it is the last year for the run in the Heights.

The girl and I also did the one mile. She's three, I carried her maybe an eighth of the way during the third quarter, but she did a lot of her own running. Our time was 20:02. She placed second in the under-6 division - and I got an award for the 35 - 39 division. I was the only guy in that division.

All hail, the FUTURO Sport Adjustable Shin Splint Support

Tuesday:
Distance: 2 miles (running) + 1 mile (limping in pain)

Friday:
Distance: 3 miles, all running, thank you.
Stretches: Yes
Water: Yes

A Little Less Conversation - Elvis Presley
Wake Up - XTC
Sixteen Military Wives - The Decemberists
Find My Baby - Moby
Ooh La La - Goldfrapp
Hounds of Love* - The Futureheads

Things got so bad with my shin splint (I guess that's what it has to be) that I just couldn't even run on Tuesday. If it's not one stupid thing it's another, it's all connected.

I blame the shoes. The Addidas have to go, they caused nasty blisters, and now possibly this. I am wearing my seven year-old shoes until I can get suitable replacements. Thank heavens for the FUTURO Sport Adjustable Shin Splint Support however, I was able to do pretty well today. 5K on Sunday, taking a break tomorrow. Good thoughts.

I think I used to have a porpoise.

Distance: 1 mile

Playlist:
Every Day Is Exactly the Same - Nine Inch Nails

Wasn't planning on running at all today, wanted to take a day off. But then my girl is "in training" so we needed to run half a block (part of the distance was spent carrying her) and then I felt like taking a short lap just because.

Damn if that didn't make my shin hurt again. Feels fine now, ice makes the pain go away. I need to stretch more before running, though I am not sure that will help.
