Again ... I said I was a time bomb.

Exhausted, distracted. A bit overwhelmed.

And that was before we watched the documentary.

The big, full days continue. And that's what you wanted, right?

Since the show closed, I have had a pull in the left side of my neck. This may be because ... well, it may be because of a number of things. Stress has manifested itself in my neck many, many times -- but not for a long, long time.

Light a fire, hit and run.

Actual work conversation yesterday.
What a decade it has been. The kids are quick to point out it wasn't a great world when Obama was president, but at least there was a certain degree of accountability and considerably less bullshit.

Or not. I don't know. I suppose this was inevitable. It's going to be quite the Semiquincentennial this summer.

Distance: 4.2 miles
Duration: 37:29

Here is some good news. I did not believe I would have much going on this calendar year, as far as my writing was concerned. But I have produced a commission (which will be performed tomorrow), there will be a first public reading in June, a remount of a fringe show at the end of October, and this week's big surprise, the publication of one of my very favorite scripts!

Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 64°

On Tuesday, The Current was commemorating the tenth anniversary of the death of Prince Rogers Nelson. I mentioned this fact to our elder child and they said, "It been only ten years?"

Indeed.

We have not been doing the upper body work. This is not just laziness, I can't remember one day to the next and staying focused is an issue. I'm doing my job, and that's without much passion or interest, because I'm so disappointed. It's temporary.

I like the way you move.

Guy Richards Smit
Stress. Stress and insecurity. There is much to do. I prefer that to having nothing to do. I made lists for each of the past four days, with very clear objectives for each day. I got half of it completed. Not true, I got half of each task completed, which is better than all of half of them, if you follow me. Things got started, and needed additional time, information, fortitude, time.

That is an accomplishment: starting.

My back still hurts.

Distance: 3 miles

Translation: Gosh! Whatever's in those Epstein files must be really, really bad!

Route: rec center

Woke this morning with a headache. In spite of that, I was able to write a new scene, which means I am, in fact, in charge of things. Right? That's all it takes. Keep moving forward.

Let's make this the best week ever.

Commitment: Run Tuesday morning.

Thursday, March 10, 2016

Let me get some action from the back section.

He's smiling at you, Beavis.
Family matters kept me from getting a training run Tuesday morning, by afternoon it was too late. I had spent the day on a liquid diet in preparation for Wednesday's procedure, and by the evening did not have the calories nor the energy.

The colonoscopy (my first) passed without incident. There's a little joke in there for you. No polyps, nothing like cancer, all clear. See you again in ten years.

As we were preparing for the procedure and the nurse was hooking me up to the machine to check my heart rate, she immediately asked, "Are you a runner?"

I can't tell you how good it feels when someone giving me a medical examination asks me that question.

Distance: 3 miles
Avg Pace: 7:38

Refreshing morning run. Climate was perfect. Short pants, short-sleeved shirt. Flying through the springtime air. If only absolutely anything else felt so normal.

I know you'll want to run around.

"If you could give one magic pill that would improve physical health, mood, reduce weight," this would be it, [Dr. Robert Waldinger, psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard University] says. Federal health officials recommend 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity every day.

Best To Not Sweat The Small Stuff, Because It Could Kill You

NPR - Morning Edition, Sept. 22, 2014
A few years back some "friends" chose to share with me this report which suggests there is no empirical evidence that exercise helps with depression. Except the other day NPR tells me, as part of their ongoing reports on STRESS (which I should tell you are very stressful to listen to) that physical exercise can improve physical health and mood.

So there's that.

Temperature: 73°
Distance: 3.25 miles

Big, beautiful night. Numerous runners and walkers and others.

What's the word for that awkward moment you have to pass someone who is almost but not quite just going as fast as you, and then you speed up because you want to put a lot of space between them and you and you notice your shorts are stuffed up your buttcrack?

There has to be one.

Sit yourself down, friend.

Oh, fun.

Before: Since Sunday, I have been struck with stiffness in my neck, pain in my abdomen, soreness in my eyes and across my brow, and a general sense of lethargy and tiredness. I cannot tell if it is the weather, lack of sleep, anxiety over my responsibilities, or what. I have not run in, oh, two days, but it feels much longer.

I do not wish to run right now, but as the wife missed an episode of Drinking With Ladies so that I could, I feel obligated.

Temperature: 70°
Climate: humid
Distance: 3.25 miles

After Yes. That was mental. Just ... mental. On the road ten seconds, I felt more alive, and like myself. Thoughts connect ... my eyes still hurt, but my stomach has calmed. Tomorrow makes more sense. Running does its job.
