He has seven daughters!

Eldest is home, freshman year is complete. What the actual fuck. They need to get up to speed, and hey, so do I. We took a nice run around the neighborhood, but man there are some inclines around here.

Anyway, well done.

And here we go again!

We're back. Sunny skies and feelins strong. Had a Covid scare this week, a friend with whom I was in close contact on Tuesday tested positive, so I have been playing it safe. But I feel absolutely fine. And the run made me feel even better.

Summer of soul.

July 20, 1969

I have resolved, as the weather warms and my opportunities to run increase to ease off the garbage food. There has been a lot of that. And you know what? I had also decided not to feel bad about that. But there comes a time when taking it easy feels good. It's stuff I do not wish to carry with me.

The internet is full of blogs like this one, which are a multi-year document of one individual's ageing process as a human, rom teenager to young adult, from older adult into their senior years. I wonder if this one will be of use to anyone, tracking my physical and mental progress from age 38 to (so far) my late-early mid-fifties.

When will it end? When I stop running, I guess. Which will come first, that or death?

Distance: 3 miles
Duration: 31:03

Everybody's out on the run tonight!

Good lord, I cannot get my head straight. And I am exhausted. First I'm sick, then I cannot sleep. Okay now, let's move that body.

It was after dusk. Everybody was not, in fact, out on the run tonight. But I was! If I'd gotten out ten minutes earlier the park would not have been so creepy. And dangerous. As in, tripping over things dangerous. I just lapped the pond and out.

No more darkness. No more night.

Dad face.
The weather turns, it's been rainy but warm. And I have been ill. A bad springtime cold. I get those, though maybe only once during the shutdown? Ugh, what a feeling of wooziness and disorientation.

Today, however, the boy and I drove to Athens for the weekend. I feel much better, but all the post-illness stuff is making my face hurt. Driving in bright sunlight, on a warm day ... and the a/c is on the fritz. By the time I got to the MIL's place I was not in good shape.

So, I napped, and took a run! Really wanted to ge the blood -- and air -- moving through this body after a four hour drive.

Your feet may take you far from me.

Cool morning, took a jacket, wish I hadn't. It's chilly at first! But then the sun rises above the trees. Didn't wear sunglasses, either. Morning runs, you gotta plan, man.

Soon enough it won't make a difference. It will all be hot and bright.

Running up that building.

These days! These bright spring days! I am trying to talk myself up! They are full of writing, I am currently 1) editing passages from my notebook for one class 2) redrafting a script that was workshopped last month and 3) writing scenes for a new work for another class.

That last has come with difficulty. This morning was something of a breakthrough. It has required a great deal of discipline, making sure I touch on each every single day this month, and this morning the temperatures were high enough that I could also include a run in that equation.

Distance: 3.75 miles
Duration: 36:36
Pace: 9:45
Route: Forest Hill Loop

Coming out of the park can be a struggle, today I had Eighties by Killing Joke with a bpm of 151 which is not terribly fast, which means it was perfect. And the final lap? Crushed it.

Don't mess with my toot toot.

Don't look back, just keep on walking.

Shortly after mile two I felt a twinge in my right glute. That could be a sidelining injury, and right when the season is about to turn. I walked, stoped, stretched, and headed on gently.

Take it easy, old man. You are in a mood for running and we do not want to be sitting on the bench.
