Foot racing to Putabin Key.

I'm reading a book. It's causing me a lot of stress and I love it. Also, I was free-writing this morning and decided I needed a social media detox. That doesn't include blogging, and I do no need to keep up with my assistantship, which is in social media. But I am going to avoid FB and TWT for the time being.

Because I have no classes. Because it is summer, which provides the illusion of freetime. Because I still have two jobs, and a lot of personal writing work to do. Not just writing, but submitting proposals, etc.

Distance: 5.25 miles

Pace: 10:10
Route: Forest Hill/Neighborhood Loop

Climate: sunny & hot
Mood: good
Weight: 177 lbs. (-1.0)

Hot run, casual. Quite sunny. Perfect album for it. Good lord. Sweaty. I did not expect to run to the entire albu, but I had a mood.

The late 1990s I loved all the new shit that was coming down the pipe. Music was experimental, and it was out there, but sometimes you had to find it. "Brimful of Asha" was a minor hit and I was like what is this?

Listening to this record makes me want to smoke a lot of pot. I think that's what it's for. But as I am an ageing Gen Xers, the real reason this one has popped up is the opening track. Sleep on the left side, keep the sword hand free. Not for me, though. Sleep on the left side, because sleeping on the right side means you cannot relax for the hard beating of your heart.

Burning the ground.

I went to bed last night and thought, I am going to wake up in the middle of the night and not get back to sleep. And sure as hell, that is what happened. Personal issues, work issues, artistic issues, school issues. There was no closing the mout of my mind. So? I woke up at 4:00 AM and got some god damn work done.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 34:34
Pace: 9:36
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 63°
Climate: sunny & cool
Mood: all right
Weight: 177 lbs. (-1.0)

My son asked why I do the "year playlist" thing and I told him several reasons. The primary reason, I told him, was for nostalgia. I cast my mind back into my history and it makes me think and remember, and sometimes it can be creatively stimulating.

Of course, another reason is so that I don't have to think about what it is I am going to listen to. Now that that time of year has passed, I must decide, every run. Will it be for BPM? Or maybe a playlist inspired by a certain song or artist, or an album? And I don't like that. I have enough to think about on a daily basis.

Intake
Breakfast: mixed berry crip w/cream, coffee (2x)
Lunch: tofu, beans & rice, cucumber ribbon salad, sliver of carrot cake
Happy Hour: beer (1x)
Dinner: quinoa salad
Also, fizzy water (3x)

Started out weak. Weak ankles, shins, knees. Finished strong, though. Maybe take a day off tomorrow? Yeah, I really should take the day off tomorrow.

Remember that. Take the day off tomorrow.

What's That Lyric?
Come on, man. You know what that's from.

Monday, June 21, 2021

Save that breath for choir practice.

Didn't log my intake yesterday because it was all over the place. I mean, I ate a million little things. They were a lot of things, a picnic in the park, a party for a high school graduate. The best thing I can say is that I only consumed one alcohol beverage. But there was dessert and chips and on and on.

Okay? So, one day of overdoing it. We must continue to be vigilant, and cautious.

Distance: 3.15 miles
Duration: 30:47
Pace: 9:45
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 79°
Climate: overcast & HUMID

Father's Day late morning run with the boy. We used the 150-159 bpm list. Good pace. Easy. He is engaged in wrestling conditioning now. Already! And it makes him so glad. We did not allow him to wrestle last year. Yesterday was his two week mark from his second innoculation. He is vaccinated. We are moving forward.

Anyway, yesterday he did runs and sprints. So we took it easy. Maybe tomorrow we will pick it up.

Father runs fast.

Also, I got three new running shirts!

A day off yesterday, a cool day. This morning it will heat up again. I was supposed to have a crown replaced this AM, but it's not back from the lab. So, a run it is!

My attitude is so much better now than it was last year. Maybe that's because the president isn't a serial villain and we aren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Every single song on this playlist is a banger. It's interesting, even a song like Save a Prayer, which seems slow, has a good bpm. It isn't a driving rhythm, but it moves. I have been culling favorites from a list just before I go out thinking, if that pops up, it will drag me down.

The course of a lifetime runs.

Still, I have these occasional pains in the area of my chest. Not my heart, exactly, but sometimes. The doctor asks, does exertion cause pain? And no, it absolutely does not. I mean, it really does not. I run, and I run fast, and I can overheat, or lose my breath, but it's never pain. It never hurts.

It remains to appear to be a side-effect of the medication I take for anxiety. Yes, remains to appear to be so. That is when these pains began. I wonder if leaving the medication will eliminate the pain. Knowing me, I wouldn't notice.

Boy chose the decade. I was surprised, he hates contemporary music. But seeing as 2012 was almost a decade ago, it is ancient to him. It was a banger. We went hot and fast. He gets his second dose today, no idea what he will feel like tomorrow.

Now we're running.

He says he attracts bugs. He is a bit allergic to mosquito bites, they affect him terribly, big swollen welts. Then there's the spider bite he got in NC once, when he was a child. Traumatic, scary and also made him ill for a shot period. And it just hurt. No, he did not get super powers.

Running through the woods makes him anxious, he just feels the itch all over. I can sympathize with that part. That was me, too, at his age. Skin was an enemy. My acne was much worse at his age than his currently is. Cold comofrt.
