Neighborhood One Mile

Dresses by Aunt Brenda
We're in that stage in recovery where the pain in the chest becomes a pain in the back. Is there a word for this? It’s like there’s a straight line from the real pain in my chest to the new one in my back. Same place, different side.

Distance: 1 mile
Duration: 10:06
Route: Haselton Loop
Temperature: 81°
Climate: overcast & humid
Mood: good

One miler? Sure. Got the dude new kicks yesterday. I'm gonna work with these a bit longer. Both kids say they are looking forward to running with me in Maine next week.

Careful. The last time I "looked forward" to Maine, bad things happened.

I will be your daddy.

Thank God for George Michael, and especially for the single "I Want Your Sex" which was first released on the soundtrack to Beverly Hills Cop II in May 1987.

It's not the best rack on his first, upcoming solo record, Faith. But is was a quirky, frenetic, deconstructed bop which enraged a lot of silly people. I got the "extended CD single" that summer and wore that fucker out.

Distance: 5 miles
Duration: 51:49
Pace: 10:21
Route: Forest Hill Loop +
Temperature: 73°
Climate: overcast & muggy
Mood: all right

Over my high school years I had developed a terrible case of acne on my chest, back and shoulders. At the end of 1986 I was single again and miserable, I thought I'd never date again. The year 1987 started with my first one-night stand, which was completely humiliating.

However, I was soon prescribed Accutane. My skin cleared up, and with it a degree of physical self-confidence that no man deserves, and for a short time, I became a player. George Michael wrote my songs. Well, George and Robert Smith.

Maybe I will try running to some Cure albums next.

Difficult week, physically. Big run Tuesday, but that seemed to exacerbate the injury. Refraining from running was an emotional drain. The weather didn't help, the rain and damp. Still, been reading. Working. Watching movies. Summer time.

Man, but that last track is problematic.

Forest Hill Walk

I'm dizzy pretty much all the time now. I just deal with it and try not to fall down.

And I am out of sorts. Can't run yet, it hurts too much in my side. I tried to run last night and stopped, which was depressing. The wife reminded me, I can walk! I did that last summer when I was recuperating from my operation, and that was very helpful.

What the hell's got into you?

But, okay. Also. On Sunday, at Cedar Point, the first ride we went on was the Scrambler. And almost immediately my wife leans into me (see: centrifugal force) and my arm is stuck for a moment between the edge of the car and my side, and I feel this pinch in my ribs.

Not a pop, not a crack, right? Just a sudden twinge of pain. And I've had it for the past several days. Not debilitating, just ... there. What is that?

Distance: 1 mile
Duration: 10:06
Route: Haselton Loop
Temperature: 70°
Climate: overcast & damp
Mood: pained

Okay, oof. That was. I set out for a two mile run, but decided almost immediately to make it one mile. The pain in my side made it hard to take deep breaths, which are necessary for running. Not sure how to handle this. A few days off? Not sure.

Pull me back to the ground again.

We are the robots.
We have a special project. I need to write a twenty-minute "quarantine" play for craft & theory. It must somehow be presentable under the current conditions. I could write a Zoom play. I guess I could also create a performance by one person, for one person, under safe conditions.

What I have decided upon is a Facebook Live event. And it will involve running. As temps are (marginally) above freezing today, I think this would be an excellent day to map out some times.

Distance: 1.75 miles
Duration: 16:36
Pace: 9:27
Route: Forest Hill
Temperature: 36°
Climate: a bit nippy
Pavement: clear
Mood: all right ... until!
Weight: 190 lbs.

Except, ugh. I pulled a muscle in my calf. Perhaps because of all of the starting and stopping, to record times. Well, dammit. Just this *ping* and I thought, you know? I'm going to walk now. In fact, I'm going to call my wife and ask her to pick me up. And that's what I did.

But not before I got all the times recorded, so the morning was productive after all. I am currently propped up with ice, and having taken a super-dose of Ibuprofen.
