If you want to run away with me, I know a galaxy.

Made it. Twenty runs in August. Also, submitted a grant proposal. We continue.

It is a Thursday, and I have run every day for several days. I will run a short distance today, to keep moving but also to give myself a break.

The nights get longer. I have spent a half hour or so every morning this week on the porch or on the deck, writing. It has been a long time since I have been dedicated to the writing, not since I graduated, really. Or before that. It's been a long time. I took a break, intentionally. But we're back and it is good.

Distance: 1 mile
Duration: 9:03
Route: Haselton Loop
Temperature: 56°
Climate: coolee-cool
Mood: good. confident.

I prepare breakfast before my run, because dawn takes longer to reach us. Breakfast is ready for me when I am exercised, cleaned up and ready for the day. Cut fruit, all that fresh cut fruit.

WHY A BIG SUIT?
First day of rehearsal. We begin strong. I woke early, to write and also to run. Septembers I can drop off. I have run no fewer than twenty runs a month since March. I need to run every day this week to make that number. Maybe I will take a break on Friday.

I will breathe, I will breathe, I won't worry at all.

Hate to see it.
Last night I had an artist date. I sat on the side porch during a downpour, storyboarding. It's a graphic device I use to make decisions about what information must be included in each scene. I drank a beer while doing it, not sure if that helped or hindered, probably the latter, but it has been a few days.

Though I stayed up too late, I still got up at six, and wrote my first scene. Now we are on our way.

My thigh has been bothering me, nothing strange nor unusual, just a pull in the quad, the sartorius muscle, at least that's where it seems to be. That long, narrow muscle that crosses the thigh. It is irritating throughout the day.

This is, I believe, the result of hours of driving the past several weeks. It was a problem I endured a great deal when I drove a stick.

A little part of you inside of me will never die.

This has been a long week. Returning home from Athens, we spent the rest of the day packing and loading the boy's stuff to take him to school. Then we spent a few nights in Cincinnati, to get to know the place a little, and take care of last minute business for the boy (he was otherwise occupied settling in.) Now we're back in Athens for more family occasions.

There's been a lot of driving these past few weeks. I hate that part. It's been aggressive to my thighs. But when it's all over it will just be the two of us. But we've been two before and that was very nice, too.

Body and beats.

I want to be more intentional. I want to be reading and writing every day. Knowing there is a big change coming I have been putting off these plans. They will come soon, right? I will have copious amounts of time soon. Will I, though? Is that how it works? It is not. You do today.

Running again, and eating well. That was intentional, and I have kept at it for nearly half a year. I can do more. I have done, I can do.

And I will start today.

The written word is a lie.

Okay, here's a confession. And a qualification. I do not have a drinking problem. I have  problem with drinking. Alcohol has always given me a big headache. Always. I have often wondered if I have an allergy to the stuff, like an actual allergy. It makes me ill.

But I enjoy it. Thursday night I had two beers. One at eight, anther at ten. Two beers. We watched the show (Step Nine) got in late. Bed by one a.m.? I woke up at five in the morning, headachy and also shivering. I thought maybe I had Covid (I don't have Covid) and anyway it destroyed my morning. I was sick and in pain and couldn't pull it together until mid-afternoon.

Two beers. You think I'm lying. Two beers. This doesn't always happen but it happens often enough. I was talking to our eldest about it, and about my efforts at selective sobriety since early this year (see: March Mildness) and they said, maybe you need to accept that you can't have more than one drink.

They just said that, like that, to their father. It was so simple, and so straightforward and so helpful. And they're right. That is a decision I need to make. I am so proud we have raised such wise and thoughtful children.
