He consoles himself that he's got his health and he knows he can't complain.

The world after Columbus.
My second colonoscopy looked pretty good, complete details to come. I slept through the last one, this one I woke up halfway through and listened to the doctor, looked at the screen. Pretty clean, a few small polyps believed to be benign.

Get used to this kind of talk, it's only going to get more graphic as the years go on.

Tell me that I won't feel a thing.

My dudes.
Colonoscopy tomorrow, my last was five years ago. All liquid diet today. And yet, I run.

The days are defined now, I have returned to daily writing. It makes a difference! It truly does. It's not what is written, it is the act of writing.

I'm getting older, not getting wiser.

Oof. Long week. Rising at 4:45 AM every morning to write and get out of the house by six. Utterly exhausting. It has also been cold and rainy, but not at the moment, and it was a very good week. A run is my reward.

Distance: 3.75 miles
Duration: 35:02
Pace: 9:20
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 64°
Climate: cool but humid
Mood: good!

I have now had as mny runs this year as I did last year, which is surprising as we were in quarantine last year! I thought I ran a lot then, but I guess I had my ups and downs then, too.

Coke adds life (where there isn't any.)

Yep, there we go. Perfect running weather and I can't find time to run. Yes, this year it's classes and writing assignments, but it's always rehearsal period (except for last year) and family responsibility. I have to be training for a fall marathon to keep up.

And food. I like food. And I'm eating it to feel happy. And that's not why you eat food.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 30:30
Pace: 9:50
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 70°
Climate: sunny & warm
Mood: all right
Weight: 173.5 lbs. (-0-)

I hve stopped writing in the morning, or writing my feelings, which I has had a change in my psyche and focus. Each day runs into the next, and while that might be good for some it is not for me. I should resume at least a page of personal insight, dreams, persoanl commentary, just to make concrete in my own mind where I am and what is happening.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x), banana
Lunch: iced coffee, granola & yogurt w/seeds & dried fruit and honey
Snack: Veg straws, chicken ramen, Coke (for my HEADACHE)
More snack: (because HEADACHE) almonds, dried cranberries, cornnuts
Dinner: bagel, cream cheese, cheese, porter
Also: fizzy water (1x)

Queasy, headachy, unsettled. Must continue to run, through the week.

You got me shaking, got me running away.

Drop the child off after brunch at Casa so they could rest (they were up later than they planned, helping an intoxicated colleague) and do homework.

Then the wife and I headed to the bike path for a little exercise before cleaning up, packing up and shopping out.

You gotta be cool. You gotta be calm. You gotta stay together.

Squatting on the floor of the dorm.
It's Parents Weekend at Ohio University! We aren't engaging in any of the collective university activities, just happy to spend time with the elder one and hang around the Wolf Homestead.

Last night they took us the a drag show at the Union, so that was cool. Later some other Heights parents with Bobcats are coming by.

I took a run past Peden Stadium, and the football game. Usually I park there, but for obvious reasons not today, starting instead out by Union Street. Beautiful day.

Nobody worry about me.

No run on Labor Day. Sunday was a bit overwhelming, and I felt like I needed a break. But, OH. The wild ride I went on with the boy. He's in conditioning for wrestling season, and wanted a short-but-fast run. I chose the 160-164 bpm list. It was fun, a bit overwhelming, but going uphill part of that second mile was really challenging.

Dusk. Dusk is so weird.

Distance: 2.55 miles
Duration: 21:02
Pace: 8:15
Route: Horizon Loop
Temperature: 77°
Climate: nice.
Mood: good
Weight: 173.5 lbs. (+4.5)

Yes, I put on four and a half pounds in three days. Granted, it's night now, and that was in the morning. But I need control. Too many meals, too many snacks, too much alcohol, too many carbs and not enough fruit and vegetables.

I need to skip breakfast (or just have fruit) and pack my lunch. The drinking, well.

You break off your plans for the weekend.

I realized on Friday that I was walking about leaning forward. Hunched forward. This is not a good thing. This is a bad thing, I must stand up straight. Great deal of sitting, in rehearsal, in class. I feel it in my right hip, in my backside. Sit up straight. And plank, whenever you can. Upper body strength, core strength. Keep addressing these.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:10
Pace: 9:25
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 70°
Climate: sunny & breezy
Mood: all right
Weight: 169 lbs. (-1.0)

I try not to eat before running, if I am going to run. This used to be a problem. I'd be hungry! But I'm not hungry in the morning. I'm just not. Don't feel light-headed, just not into cereal anymore, except for a treat. I can go all morning without eating. Why is this? It did not used to be so. Am I changing? Is this age? It's weird.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x)
Lunch: pepper cheese bake
Reading beverage: Black currant old fashioned (and extra ice)
Treat: Kraft Mac & Cheese ice cream (1 scoop)
Snack: Cheez-Its
Cocktail Hour: Black currant old fashioned
Dinner: WAY too much cheese and crackers, roasted squash, faro salad
Also: Fizzy water (2x)

One hundred runs in 2021. Didn't think I'd run so far. Good work!

Jump in the race.

Last time out I felt this pull in my back, like I was about to seize up or something. It was an easy assumption that it's because of the fact that I now carry my laptop every where in a satchel thrown over my shoulder. So I need to look out for that. I can carry it by the handles, but that can also could stress, and besides, hey. Shoulder strap.

Distance: 3.1 miles

I liked the Go-Go's for a while. Funny how "cool" works, Belinda Carlisle's foray into schmaltzy late 80s soft pop lost cred for the entire band ... and that's not right. Sting's solo work is also air-pudding, but that hasn't changed how I feel about the Police.

"Club Zero" was a new Go-Go's single that came out last year. Yay, reunion. I've heard it often enough to decide I really hate it. Especially the chorus, it sounds like the theme song to both The Monkees and The Banana Splits, which you have to admit are thematically similiar.

We're here! We're powerful! "No fucks given!" ... an actual lyric. I mean, you sang "I'm Mad About You," Belinda. "Heaven Is a Place On Earth." I guess I'm withholding judgement.

I have tried marijuana, I get nervous every time.

This is 53.
We are maintaining. My homework has been dense, hard to read, both in text and also its image in the form of scanned PDFs. My sight is becoming an issue.

Running in the dark can hurt my back, if I do not know or misjudge where my foot is going to fall. This did not used to be a problem, but then I did not used to have back problems.

Anyway, good morning.

Distance: 3.3 miles
Duration: 31:08
Pace: 9:25
Route: Boulevard Loop
Temperature: 61°
Climate: cool
Mood: all right
Weight: 171 lbs. (+1.0)

Now it is cool. Early runs can be dangerous for other reasons, too. Unwise dinner choice led to intestinal distress, let's just say that.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x), banana, doughnut
Lunch: mushroom stew over rice, peach, Oreos (2)
Happy hour: Guinness, M&Ms
Dinner: Salad w/spicy chicken

Striving hard not to snack during rehearsal. We maintain, we maintain. This is the time of year year when I begin gaining weight. Can we flip that? For the sake of consistency?
