All your money won't another minute buy

Distance: 9 miles
Time: 12.30 pm
Stretches: yes
Weather: 62º overcast, breezy and beautiful

Gabriel & Dresden (Continuous Mix) 1 hour, ten minutes.

Making up for lost weeks, weeks spent acting and being very, very ill. That, and the weather hasn't been very happy. Today we are in Athens, a perfect day for running. Threatening to rain - but not. As I was finishing, the sun broke through.

A languorous jog from Union along the bike path. Past O'Bleness (where my wife was born, my brother had a major operation, and Calvin G. died) South Green (bad sex in Wray House ... well, bad sex all over South Green, actually) and out to all the new sh*t; the skate park, the Wall-Mart and everything, and back.

I have been waiting some time to attempt a run listening to the entire Gabriel and Dresden album. That's my record of the year. I picked up a track on iTunes a few weeks back and really liked it, and then they started the "complete your album" promotion and so I got the whole thing - which include the entire album mixed as one, uninterrupted track. Except for this Pink Floyd-esque thing right in the middle, the entire record makes for a dynamite run.

UPDATE:

lan·guor(lāng'gər, lāng'ər) n.
1. Lack of physical or mental energy; listlessness. See Synonyms at lethargy.
2. A dreamy, lazy mood or quality: "It was hot, yet with a sweet languor about it" (Theodore Dreiser).
3. Oppressive quiet or stillness.

I meant the second one. Dream-like.

Spending two hours in a movie theater after taking a nine mile-run is kind of dumb. My left knee and hip are very, very unhappy.

How many perfectly awful covers of Tom Waits' 1985 soft rock classic "Downtown Train" are there? Man, and I thought Rod Stewart was bad - I was changing the boy's pants and we were watching VH1 Classic and this hideous version by Patti "The Warrior" Smythe came on.

Ew?

So there we are. Done. I have a strong desire to exist in the present for the time being. They say it may snow the next few days, and in any event it will be cold, I thought I would stick it our for an hour this time. Took me to the cemetery, enetered just as When All's Well came on (Tracey and Ben would love that) and rounded Garfield's Momument for Road to Nowhere.

"Well we know where we're going, but we don't know where we've been."

Beautiful day. Performance tonight. I have been taking Arnica for my bruises.

UPDATE: Knee flare-up! Brilliant!

For some reason, this was the most difficult playlist I had to make. I simply do not have much music that was released in Y2K (wow, remember that?) and precious little with a beat. So I dug into my memory for songs that I was listening to that year. Hmn.

31 runs for 31 years. One year to go. It's been very enjoyable, but I'm tired of it. I have a lot of favorites I want to get back to, and I have missed PODRUNNER. And some new things I want to try out. What's been good about it has been getting up to speed, working up to three and now five mile runs. I don't like using PODRUNNER unless I can listen to almost all of it in one go, they do take you places.

Today was a beast, and I am not talking about the run. Woke with a headache; house work, reading and small people have been keeping me from sleep. During the show today I wiped out when getting blown off-stage (you have to see it, I won't explain it to you) striking the hard metal frame of the set, landing hard on the floor ... I have some deep bruises on my right thigh, right shin and right arm.

Interlude: Dumped

"Sometimes it snows in April."

I have managed to feverishly maintain a running schedule for over two months now. Every other day, at least three mies, and partaking of a reasonable diet.

The snow has not let up for two days. It's snowing now. There's a good foot accumulated on the street. There's nowhere to run. Last night I scarfed a bag of Nacho Cheese Doritos (they remain the most perfect food ever invented.)

Happy Easter.

"I feel a hot wind on my shoulder. I dial it in from south of the border."

Skipped a day, had a double yesterday, spent the past several trying to get my voice back, and desperately needed an afternoon nap. Then the temps drop, the snow blew in, and today I thought - I feel dumpy and slow and besides, it's terrible outside.

But then, I have run in worse stuff than this, and feeling dumpy I why I do this in the first place. No excuses.

It was a bear, though. The snow was crispy enough on the sidewalks for traction - some of the sidewalks. I did a lot of road activity, which is freaking dangerous. The mix was pretty fast, though, I was able to keep up.

Man, I actually listened to that stuff, then. That's a quater of a decade ago. I'll be happy when this obsession is past and I can resume listening to Podrunner.

What am I not doing when I am running? I am not washing dishes, doing laundry, reading books, writing plays, working on my sketches, finally starting to watch those DVDs of Firefly - everything, really.

But it's one hour, for me, every two (or so) days. Okay, maybe an hour and a half with all the warming up and cooling down. 90 mintes. Every forty-eight hours. That's not selfish, is it?

"This is just my heart laid bare for anyone who might care."

Yes. Fall Out Boy. I am a sucker for a reference to the play Closer.

This weekend has destroyed me, I am surprised I even ran, I was just going to get back in bed after the kids got off to school. My legs and neck are sore, I have multiple bruises on my arms and thighs, my voice is gone, and I am not a little depressed.

Gonna be a good week.
