Have a nice life.

We have been aching lately. Check the exercise roster, that may have something to do with it. Hips, ankles, feet, knees. All a bit sore. Unpleasant.

Distance: 4.15 miles
Duration: 37:25
Pace: 9:01

But anyway, I did bring my kit to Cincinnati. I have a day all to myself, and that should include exercise. The forecast is wonderful and I would have seriously regretted not taking the opportunity for a run.

How were we last year? Not bad.

Route: Gaslight Loop (2x)
Temperature: 71°
Climate: dark clouds w/thunder in the distance
Mood: good?

Decent rest. Good breakfast, Maria always makes something nice. Now, what am I going to do with the rest of the day? The last time I was in this room, I was writing and doing research for the play that goes up later this month. Today, I may just read.

Not running out while my heart's unsteady.

Mini-vacation is Cincinnati. The boy has not one but two gigs this week. Feels like an exercise in enforced relaxation, for which we are immensely fortunate. A couple of nights at the Gaslight Bed & Breakfast, our home away from home, to write, watch TV, listen to jazz and flop around. And run.

Distance: 2 miles
Duration: 18:00

The Best of Everything But the Girl (2025)
Before Today
No Difference
Driving
Each and Every One
Rollercoaster

I love each and every one of these tracks. But are they the best? Which is to say, is there nothing above? I have to quibble. Three tracks from Walking Wounded and one track from Temperamental -- and it's not "Five Fathoms"?

Nothing from Love Not Money? It's okay there isn't anything from Worldwide.

They should have asked me to curate. And perhaps I still may. A playlist called The Very Best of Everything But the Girl.

Route: Gaslight Loop

Climate: sunny & beautiful

Do you really want to live forever?

War is peace, am I right?
We are in Cincinnati, not to see a young man but to celebrate an old man. Staying in that AirBnB we used to use when our kid first started attending Uni, the one I called a "bougie hipster flop" but it's lost some of it's shine. First of all, there's no snacks.

My dreams were vivid and I even remember some though they did not have to do with nuclear annihilation. More to do with high-achieving colleagues and a very unwell pet fish.

Anyway, I have to run. We need to keep in shape for what's coming.

Distance: 3 miles
Duration: 27:49

They come a running just to get a look.

Our house smells like cat. The whole house, stinky cat. This is a shame, as Tiger is actually so much healthier than he was two months ago.

Distance: 2.1 miles
Duration: 19:21
Pace: 9:12

We're in Cincinnati for the night, to see the boy perform at Caffè Vivace. Brought my kit to do the block, like I did last fall.

Beautiful day. Walk in the park. Leisurely lunch. Mini-vacation (except for all the driving).

Someday in the city we won't have to run.

Soulmates.
A day in Cincinnati. The young man has a recital tonight at the jazz club Caffè Vivace, and we arrived the night before so we could relax today, not drive. Just write and read ... and run!

Distance: 2.1 miles
Duration: 19:16
Pace: 9:11

Warriors - Lin-Manuel Miranda & Eisa Davis (2024)
Somewhere In the City *
Reunion Square
Same Train Home *
Finale

We complete the album. I need to watch the movie, I am surprised that I never have. I know the references, the image of David Patrick Kelly clinking the beer bottles together taunting, "Warriors ... come out and play-ay ..." and also the sample which is the title of the Pop Will Eat Itself song Can U Dig It?

But it's the Odyssey, I get it. They're just trying to get home. And don't we all just want to get home?

I’ve placed faith in geography.

Hot mane.
Awake at 2:30 AM in an Airbnb in Over the Rhine, fretting existential questions, deciding to sit up for an hour to write out my thoughts.

Getting our money’s worth out of this bougie hipster flop.

Distance: 2.5 miles
Duration: 22:39
Pace: 9:03

We are in Cincy to see the boy over  UC’s “family weekend.” So far we’ve had some good together time, got to existence a new neighborhood, even saw a play on campus. Shame about the football game though we couldn’t even get tickets, anyway.

Route: Over the Rhine
Temperature: 48°
Climate: partly cloudy & cool
Mood: anxious

This is in an Urban Outfitters
Ah, Sunday morning in Gentrification Land, where last night’s cold IPA is this morning’s warm piss.

“Watch out for uneven pavement,” she said, and it was a warning well-heeded. For the most part, though, and easy course, and safe, and one I would be happy to elaborate upon.
