Seasons don't fear the reaper.

Look, if I can't run on a basic Saturday afternoon, I may as well hang it up. Let's run!

Route: Forest Hillovercast & damp Loop
Temperature: 54°
Climate: overcast & damp
Mood: okay

Weary run, underfed and overdressed. Here's how this needs to go: run either before or right after taking the boy to Saturday jazz. Don't wait, you'll just be hungry.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x), Count Chocula w/milk
Lunch: ravioli, candy bar (wtf?)
Dinner: TBA

There was a girl who had always run away.

Breathe. Begin again.

Good news, last night I had one drink, which I drank slowly as I did homework.

Bad news, my diet yesterday was garbage. A lot of cheese and oil and ham and chicken and hot sauce, Carbs for days. As I sipped my beverage and read my homework, I also scarfed popcorn, chocolate and Halloween candy.

I opened the Halloween candy. I am reporting this here because I am appalled at myself. Confession is good for the soul.

It's gotten chilly. My left arm has been aching for a week now. First my shoulder, on occasion my entire arm. It's unpleasant. I need to continue with the planking, more upper body work. Any upper body work. And the running.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:09
Pace: 9:24
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 48°
Climate: sunny & cold
Mood: aight
Weight: 177 lbs. (+4.0)

Recording my intake has been difficult, because I do not want to admit everything I am eating. But that's why I do it! I will report for a while longer. If I can't write it here, I shouldn't be eating it.

Breathe. Listen to your body. Begin again.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x)
Lunch: Ramen w/egg
Treat: warm chocolate chip cookies (2x) & milk
Treat: M&Ms
Dinner: roast beef sandwich, curly fries
Also, fizzy water (2x), gum (3x)

Cool run today, broke out the cold weather gear. It has gotten much harder for me to run in cold weather, it can be a drag. Especially if there is any wind. But it felt good to move.

I finally figured out why my left arm hurts -- I was carrying my phone in my hand, the entire ten miles run on Saturday! Quite the workout, for me.

Central Park 10 Mile

Another promise kept. The boy and I are staying in the East Village, and there was a question as to whether we would run to central park, or take the train there. It’s a 3 mile run to get to the park and another to get back. We took the train.

It was colder than I would’ve liked, but at least it didn’t rain. He pushes me pretty hard. I had brought us back to the start after 5 miles, which included a few bathroom stops. But he really wanted to do 10. Wasn’t sure if I was up to it. But hey, he’s here, I am here. This is a moment.

We ran another 5 miles, up and down the mini inclines of the park, another lap around the Reservoir. We’re both pretty exhausted, but grateful.

Distance: 10 miles
Duration: 1:31:12
Pace: 9:05
Route: Central Park, baby!
Temperature: 50 degrees
Climate: overcast & cool
Mood: good

We could work it out.

Ugh. The temperature drops, and I lose all interest in running. Is this how it is going to go? I've also developed a habit of eating all and everything. I ate half a loaf of olive bread on Saturday. This is not going to go well.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:11
Pace: 9:25
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 61°
Climate: cool w/light rain
Mood: angsty, energized
Weight: 174 lbs. (-1.5)

Well! If I had procrastinated one minute longer, I would have been caught in a downpour! So that went well. The thunder kept my pace up. The boy and I are going on a journey tomorrow, perhaps we (together) will get a run in!

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (3x)
Lunch: pasta & sauce, fresh tomato w/dressing
Snack: cheese & crackers (4)
Dinner: TBA

You got me runnin' ... and there's no funnin' it.

Yes, I thought of running this morning, but I went back to sleep in stead (after writing). I think that was the right call. I was just tired.

Tonight wasn't a great run, feeling a little weary. I have been consuming way too many sugars these past several days. Halloween candy has already appeared in my life, and I have been breakfasting, and snacking at rehearsal. It's all too much.

Today I tried to get it back under control. I did such a good job, losing weight slowly over the summer.

But hey, I got a mid-week run in. More of those, please.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:05

Route: Forest Hill Loop

Dark angels follow me over a godless sea.

Beautiful, damp day. Weather's perfect, but feeling a bit not into it. We'll see.

Distance: 3.75 miles
Duration: 32:58
Pace: 8:47
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 68°
Climate: sunny & warm
Mood: good
Weight: 172.5 lbs. (+0.5)

Had a bite to eat, that picked me up a little. And sports drink. The run was strong and beautiful. There was a bricklayer working on the bridge which spans Forest Hills Boulevard. The wall at either end has gotten fucked up over the years, but now it has been repaired. I stopped to thank him for the excellent work, it was a very pleasant exchange.

Intake
Breakfast: coffee (2x), rice cake w/ sunbutter & apple
Drank: Gatorade, also: beer
Lunch: Ravioli
Snack: cheese & crackers, clementine
Game food: hot dog, Doritos, Coke
Dinner: vegan tofu wings, buffalo cauliflower, vegan blueberry cheesecake

I attended a high school soccer game, the only one I have gotten to attend all season. I always get a hot dog, so I got one and I do not regret that at all.

Sugar season has begun. My cravings lead me to cornershops to get Pop Tarts. Before class I get a bag of M&Ms, every class. Soon, there will be Halloween candy, probably even before Halloween, set out in bowls in various places. Then the cookies.

I must be careful. I must be vigilant.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:50
Pace: 9:37
Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 64°
Climate: overcast & damp
Mood: angsty
Weight: 172 lbs. (-1.0)

Spent a week bingeing the Lolita Podcast. That made for a troubling week, but it's so well researched and has so much to say about the way we think about child abuse.

Nabokov's book is too well-made. My dad loved his work, though he wasn't necessarily a fan of this one. Lolita is the confession of a pedophile who kidnaps and rapes a twelve year-old girl for an entire year. If that doesn't sound like what you thought the story was about, it is understandable, as the novel has been wildly misinterpreted in popular culture.

The book jacket featured here is not from any actual publication, but artwork by someone who I feel has best captured the actual narrative. Google the book title and "cover art" and you will probably see hundreds of sexualized images of seductive teenagers, coupled with a few more-nuanced graphics.

Why am I writing about this? Not sure. I'm thinking.

Drink: Gatorade
Lunch: ramen

A place we can run.

Muna
(Jacobs Pavilion)
Yeah, we saw Phoebe Bridgers on Wedneday night. I've never been huge into live music, it's a fact. I am a recorded music kind of guy. I was more into it when I was young enough to dance, no one wants to see a middle aged dude dancing at one of these, and so standing around, in a crowd, drinking beer, it's just not my scene.

At the same time, yes. The power of live performance. Especially now. Vaccinations were required, we were asked to wear masks (I actually did, many took theirs off) and it was an outdoor venue and it's still a risk, but the sound, the emotion, the feeling.

I actually liked the opening act more, Muna's set was more eneregetic and upbeat (I know, I know, Phoebe Bridgers) and much of the crowd was there for it, which is always nice, when the opening act is also a big hit.

The boy loves live music, he is live music, and though he and his friend stood away from us (his friend's dad and I) it was cool to see him bobbing his head. I knew there was a lot going on in there.

Distance: 3.3 miles
Duration: 30:12
Pace: 9:09
Route: Boulevard Loop
Temperature: 52°
Climate: cool
Mood: angsty
Weight: 174.5 lbs. (+4.0 lbs.)
