Body and beats.

I want to be more intentional. I want to be reading and writing every day. Knowing there is a big change coming I have been putting off these plans. They will come soon, right? I will have copious amounts of time soon. Will I, though? Is that how it works? It is not. You do today.

Running again, and eating well. That was intentional, and I have kept at it for nearly half a year. I can do more. I have done, I can do.

And I will start today.

Distance: 1.7 miles (running)
Pace: 9:00
Route: out the bike path and back
Temperature:  77°
Climate: light rain
Mood: good

Stretches: yes
Water: yes

Breakfast: coffee w/cream
Brunch: beignets, egg benedict & hash browns (split)
Dinner: cheeseburger, baked beans & chips
Dessert: chocolate cake & vanilla ice cream
Alcohol? Mystic Mama IPA

First run with the boy since he was sidelined with a minor injury. Headed out from the hotel, ran the path for a bit, walked for a while to work out his shoulder. Light rain. Nice.

Reading (30 min.): Bechdel, A.
Writing (30 Min.): Storyboarding

Currently reading Alison Bechdel's recent memoir, The Secret to Superhuman Strength. It is a book with which I can relate.

So there we both were in that little house.

Recently Albumbism held a readers poll and Walking Wounded was declared the best Everything But the Girl album of all time. I would have said Amplified Heart, but no one really has favorites among children.

Distance: 3.5 miles
Duration: 33 minutes
Route: Rec Center
Mood: decent
Exercises: No.

Nineteen Ninety-Six was the year of settling in. My new girlfriend had moved to Cleveland and we were childless and animated. Everything But the Girl has played Cleveland exactly once and we were there, at the Odeon in the Flats. We stayed behind after to meet the band. God they were lovely and I wanted to take them home with us.

Brisk run, quick breaks for water. Ran out the (abridged) album. Feel good, running fast. I still hurt, perhaps I always will hurt. But can I maintain, can I ignore, can I concentrate on what is relevant? Breathe, be here now. There will always be pain. Stand tall. Accept.

I have started reading Zen Mind, Beginner's Mind. Yes, I may follow this path.

Baseline: 179.5 lbs.
Today: 181.5 lbs. (-0-)
Goal: 175 lbs.

God knows where I'm going to.

And then a light switch went on, some time this morning during breakfast, like part of my brain opened up to show me something I had missed.

There was a span of time (it must have been brief) during my run yesterday, that I felt a great sense of calm and joy. There was no past and no future, just an ever-present now, when I was suddenly without care or worry. Not about time or children or work and health or anything. It was all all right. It would be all right.

I saw myself meditating. Investigating Buddhism. Breathing deeply. It felt very good.

Shortly after I forgot all about that. Later, carrying laundry upstairs from the basement I hit my head very hard and that really hurt.

Temperature: 48°
Climate: cool ... but I shouldn't have worn that jacket
Distance: 3.25 miles
