Own heart beating.

Exhausting myself this week. Long days, long nights, and the heat. I don't like to complain about heat, I much prefer it to the cold. It truly has had an effect upon me.

I really should never go out after Dark Room. Socializing is fun, but going to bed at midnight is no longer a practical option for me, not ever. Bed by ten is ideal. But not on Tuesday. Nor on Wednesday. Nor on Thursday, or Friday. Not this week.

And yet, I run.

Distance: 3.1 miles
Duration: 29:15
Pace: 9:25

Route: Forest Hill Loop
Temperature: 72°
Climate: sunny & bright
Mood: bit angsty

Weight: 163 lbs. (+1.0)

Man bytes dog.
Much of the current weight fluctuation relates to circumstance. Went to a ball game last night. We are also going to be eating out tonight -- and another ball game tomorrow night. It's a lot.

Just watching all their feet.

Saw our first Guardians game for the season last night. Forty degrees. We had fun, won the game (almost fucked it, though) but, man. I feel still and tired this morning. If I hadn't gotten a call from a sick actor I wouldn't have gotten up as early as I did.

So, we run!

Distance: 3 miles
Duration: 24:55
Route: rec center
Mood: good
Stretches: yes
Water: yes
Weight: 160 lbs.

Some compulsive chewing at the game last night, provided the illusion of heat. Anyway, the occasional indulgence is fine. It's the constant indulgence that will get you.

All you really got to do is just-a move your little feet.

Big weekend. Big meals. My wife had a do-over birthday dinner on Friday, last night we attended the screening of I Hate This at Playhouse Square. And tonight? The Guardians at Progressive Field!

From my throat to my pounding heart.

The "2020" Tokyo Olypmics. Disappointing, or outright offensive? Let's discuss.

We're not actually going to discuss this. I got up at 4 AM to watch the women play soccer, and I'm still not feeling my best.

Yesterday we had a delightful wine hour followed by a big family dinner. My wife made my favorite meal for dinner, and my favorite cake for dessert, and there was plenty for everyone.

After we had a fire in the rather avant garde fire chimney that was installed next to the cabin this year and lit fireworks. It was one of the best birthdays I have ever had.

Distance: 3:45 miles
Duration: 31:03
Pace: 9:01
Route: Martin Point Run
Temperature: 79°
Climate: sunny & hot & perfect
Mood: surprisingly anxious

Why anxious? Well, Simone Biles. I provided my final notes for the video version of I Hate This. Had an uncomfortable conversation about the name of the Cleveland baseball team last night. Misgendering. And on and on and on.

But, that was a pwerful run. Up and down hills, chin up, I felt very strong. Light. That is something to be glad about. Who knows when the next dive into depression might occur.

A young man's dream.

Big night last night, we took in a ballgame. The boy played the anthem along with his middle schools orchestra on the field, which was very cool, and then we watched the team lose. Cavs won, however. We were all up past eleven on a school night, it felt like two AM.

This morning I have a sleep-deprived, change-of-season induced headache. Ah, well. We muster.

Hard start. No longer headachy, but the after-effect, the weariness. But I kept at it and finished clean, feeling much better. Thirsty! Very thirsty. Need to bring water, even for a short run like this.

I just keep hearing you running on up my stairs ... but you're not there.

Good Lord, Cleveland is one game away from winning its first World Series championship since 1948. What the hell has happened to my town?

Ah well, the Browns are still 0-7. The Cleveland Browns keep us real. Chicago has the Cubs.

Big weekend. Today, among other things, we are creating the Day of the Dead altar. So many important figures lost, so close to us.

Distance: 3 miles
Route: Boulevard Loop
Temperature: 50°

Nice, strong run. Perfectly cool. Not the last day in short sleeves, I do not think so.

Climate: damp & cool
Weight: 170 lbs. (+0.5)
Goal: 165 lbs.
Mood: anxious

We head into conspicuous consumption season and have not moved the needle at all. It's the doughnuts. the carbs, the sugar ... and tomorrow is Halloween. Big sigh, Charlie Brown.

However. If we win, let us never speak of that shitty movie ever again.

Because you move so fast.

Daffy.
There are times when there's so much going on, all four of us. We're up late, we rise early, the four of us are just so active, so busy, so occupied that we can't sleep and we don't eat, but we keep moving, getting the work done, creating the art, watching the events - live or on TV - attending the practices and the performances and the games, the memorials and the parties.

These times are called 2016.

I am thinking ahead to the new year, to January, when the weather will compel me to run every day, because that is how I deal. But why not now? Because of all of the things.

Distance: 3.64 miles
Avg. Pace: 7:56
Duration: 28:54
Route: Forest Hill Loop

Feels good to run. Great to get out. Not feeling it these days, though. That much should be obvious. This morning I rose early (no headache) and sat in front of the fire to write, and I did. Working on the witch scene. Then the boy came down and we sat and talked.

The plan is to keep moving, many things to do before to cold weather sets in, including plans for our Day of the Dead altar. So many to remember this year. Too many.

Need to keep my head up, totally missed the leaves in the park.

Temperature: 59°
Climate: cool and overcast
Weight: 169.5 lbs.
Goal: 165 lbs.
Mood: all right

Watching the games. Eating the snacks. Drinking the beer. It's what you do.

I empty a bottle and I feel a bit free.

This past weekend was an incredible, jam-packed indication of exactly how wild and exciting, and long and arduous this summer is going to be. And I didn't even get one run in.

Summer! We had a yard sale! Kids sold lemonade, we unloaded some old crap and I picked up a $20 someone had dropped who knows when and I had no idea who it belonged to. That was my biggest sale.

Baseball! The boy had baseball games Thursday and Saturday. It was at the evening game Saturday that I realized I had unwittingly scored a sunburn during the yard sale. Sunburn!

Fifth grade graduation - the girl is moving on to middle school! The boy will be moving to the elementary school she is leaving! Our actor-teachers are packing their things, some are moving away, and we just scored three amazing new hires!

And finally -- finally -- the kids have gotten into Doctor Who! I see marathon viewing all summer long!

Temperature: 78°
Route: Shaker Lakes :3 laps
Distance: 4.1 miles

Running Shaker Lakes can be treacherous. There's pavement, wood chips, worn dirt, tree roots, drops, inclines, other runners and fat, dog-walkers three abreast (plus the dog.)

Last night I notied cramps in both my feet. Would that be ... longing? The run itself felt much longer than four miles, but it felt good to be out in it again. Late 70s post-punk helps, too.

Sitting by the ball field, watching the boy practice. He's got a nice batting stance, he is learning to connect. Looks like it may be a baseball summer.
