Global Running Day!
Formerly National Running Day!
Yes, it is, uhm ... the first, uh, Wednesday in June (right?) and everyone must run!
Except you, I know you're not a runner, that's cool, you don't have to run.
Warm pre-dawn run, feels good. Great way to start the day.
The badge at right looks like a condom wrapper, what is up with that.
Distance: 3 miles
Route: Boulevard Loop
Temperature: 59°
Climate: warm!
Weight: 164.5 lbs.
Mood: good
Would very much prefer to keep my weight below 165. That's the goal, for the rest of my life.
It doesn't have to be Christmastime for the treats to appear. My brother is in town, came over for dinner last night and brought cannoli from Presti's. Because I had not, for example, dipped into the emergency ice cream supply at work yesterday afternoon (though I could hear it in there, screaming) I felt entirely justified in my indulgence. You wait for the good stuff to come to you.

But today is National Running Day. So run we must.
Temperature: 54°
Distance: 3.37 miles
Avg Pace: 7.59
Climate: nice and cool
Very weak this morning. When training begins, I must take care to retire early - always very difficult during the summer. There was a beautiful, full moon just over the housetops. Sorry you missed that.
Weight: 156.5 lbs.
From goal: -3.5

I could run ...
For the past three years, I was reminded of National Running Day maybe the day before it happens, and then spend most of the day itself worrying whether or not I will get that symbolic run in. This time I set my alarm.
My daughter graduates from fifth grade this morning. The distance from 2009 to now has been vast, all the moments, all the achievements, all the injuries and disappointments. All the great, personal success. My wife is a mess about it. I take longer to process this stuff.
Yesterday the education department came to our house to close the book on a great year of work. That is something I can more easily wrap my head around.

Back where you started.
Today is National Running Day!
Events did not conspire to run with a partner to celebrate Nat'l Running Day, but I did take the boy to get a new (used) baseball mitt, and we threw a ball back and forth for a half-hour before his practice and I say that counts.
Tomorrow brings to an end her fourth grade year, his second. Such important milestones. They're both about a foot taller, each. Her final soccer game for the season was this evening, those girls worked all year, since the fall, to work as a team and I have been so impressed with their progress.
It is a shame the team they played tonight are those awful girls who trip everybody.
It's not like they aren't moving immediately from days packed with school from days packed with activity camps -- theater camp, sports camp, music camp, art camp, invention camp, weeks away with the out-laws camp -- but at least there's no homework, and that general summer sense that whatever happens, it's, well ... whatever.

Not to try to push our bodies any faster.
Duration 41 minutes
Pace: 7.8 min/mile
Temperature: 81ยบ
Weather: hot! humid!
Weight: 172 lbs.
How many have you killed today, National Running Day?
My Lord, that was HORRIBLE. No one to blame but myself, I can handle heat. I can handle humidity. What I cannot handle is two servings of pesto pasta inside my fat belly before all the heat, humidity and direct sunlight.
For the first three miles, it was just like carrying a baby in my belly. Okay, I know, not just like that. But you know. Like that.
My head began to swell. I desperately wanted something to drink, in spite of having had two glasses of water before heading out. But there is nothing on this five mile route for me. No water fountains, nothing.
Then ... the burps. I need not continue.
AND YET. The final mile, THOUGH it was into the sun, THOUGH it includes the ups and downs of a half-dozen curbs and final, mild incline, finally, at long last, I hit it.
It took five miles. But it was worth it. Thank you, National Running Day.
Now I must vomit and shower.
