Going down swinging.

What a huge weekend. Saturday I commenced, our son played two gigs (jazz and rock) and then we went out for what has become a family tradition: fondue.

Today there will be more, more, more. Another rock gig, I have to do a curtain speech, and then we will drive a couch to Athens for the eldest.

This is the craziest month. I love it.

Don't do me any favors.

Christmas morning.
Dropped the eldest off at the airport this morning at four. That was more difficult than I could have possibly imagined. Yes, they have been at school all semester, but they are now on a weeklong wildness retreat in the Everglades and I have so much fear I did not know I had.

That, and this guy scolded me in the john for cutting in front of him at the sink. I was distracted. I was once scolded by someone touching my car door to the side of their car (no mark) in the parking garage at work, this just after driving there from the hospital where my mom was dying. It makes me feel so helpless and stupid and I don't know what to say, not even an apology.

It's been a difficult morning. I'm glad I got a little more sleep before beginning the day.

Distance: 3.1 miles

Mood: better now

Gear: Long pants, short-sleeved T, rain jacket, winter hat, gloves

See, I could have worn shorts. But it was all right, just all right. Any warmer and that would have been a drag. The gloves came off after mile two. That's not a metaphor, that means that's when I took my gloves off and shoved them in my pocket.

But the winter coat, that waits until it freezes.

Intake
Breakfast: oatmeal w/dried fruit, cream, butter & brown sugar, coffee (3x)
Lunch: Ramen w/mushroom
Candy: Twizzler (4x)
Dinner: cheeseburger, fries, beer
Also; fizzy water (1x)

You gotta be cool. You gotta be calm. You gotta stay together.

Squatting on the floor of the dorm.
It's Parents Weekend at Ohio University! We aren't engaging in any of the collective university activities, just happy to spend time with the elder one and hang around the Wolf Homestead.

Last night they took us the a drag show at the Union, so that was cool. Later some other Heights parents with Bobcats are coming by.

I took a run past Peden Stadium, and the football game. Usually I park there, but for obvious reasons not today, starting instead out by Union Street. Beautiful day.

Did I drink too much? Am I losing touch?

Maintaining. That is the struggle. It's not like I dn't have a million things to do. But where is my desire? My fulfillment? Part of his malaise is due to the end of the semester, to be sure. But it also may be the impending high school graudation of my daughter. Who am I, what is my purpose, and what comes next?

The wife has been out of town for a few nights. I have been drinking too much. It's not because she is out of town, I'd be doing that, anyway. It's end-of-semester malaise, I know. But something else. One of the birds is soon leaving the nest. And what have I done? Where have I been? And where am I going?

At the very least, these questions generally keep me on the road.
